Makara Sankranti or Pongal is an important Hindu festival. It is celebrated with pomp and fervor. Kites are flown, sweets are eaten, beautiful Rangolis are put in front of the home.
In the southern part of India especially Karnataka, this festival is very significant to farmers since it marks the harvest festival to them. Also in Andhra Pradesh this festival is celebrated with great pomp. Children and elders alike enjoy this festival.
